Fizik R5 UOMO BOA Road Cycling Shoes Reviews

Fizik R5 UOMO BOA Road Cycling Shoes

Fizik R5 UOMO BOA Road Cycling Shoes

  • Upper Material: Microtex
  • Closure: Boa IP1
  • Footbed: Fizik Cycling Insole
  • Sole: carbon reinforced nylon
  • Cleat Compatibility: 3-hole road

While the Fizik R1 Uomo shoes are some of the most comfortable, high performance shoes we’ve worn, they may be a little pricey for riders who want comfort but who aren’t rolling to that start line on a regular basis. For this reason, Fizik introduced the R5 Uomo Boa Men’s Shoes. While they aren’t sewn from kangaroo leather, the R5 uppers are highly breathable Microtex fabric with nylon mesh windows for ventilation. Inside of the uppers is Fizik’s Superlight Insole that supports your arches and absorbs road vibration. The uppers are placed on a carbon-reinforced nylon outsole that allows efficient power transfer while remaining on the lower end of the carbon cost spectrum. The stack height is low and the outsole is engineered to drive power to the pedals while remaining flexible enough for comfort on long rides. A molded heel cup helps to keep your foot in the ideal pedaling position while minimizing heel slippage. To secure the shoes to your feet, the R5 Uomo use the Boa closure system. Consisting of a single dial with a continuous loop, it is micro-adjustable for the perfect fit. A hook-and-loop closure at the forefoot adds a separate adjustment point to keep your toes happy.

Great Shoes, August 15, 2015

Starting to train and cycle, and was looking for a great racing shoe. Fisik shoes looked great, so I knew I wanted either the R5 with BOA clips or the R3 without BOA (which are both similarly priced). After riding on the R5, I can definitely say that they are very comfortable, stiff, and super easy to get in and out of them with the BOA clips.
Regarding size, I measured the length of my feet and added a little more to ensure I had some toe room and cross-checked against Fisik’s sizing chart. Although they looked very skinny out of the box, my sweet slid in amazingly easy and my first 30mile ride was the most comfortable one I’ve ever had, even for my "Flinstone-esque" wide feet. Overall, I think 0 is a great price for performance shoes that are easy to put on, comfortable, and weigh less than 250 grams each!

Fantastic shoes, September 14, 2015
Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
These cycling shoes feel great, like wearing slippers. The Boa closure is the nicest closure that I’ve felt in a cycling shoe, it snugs down evenly over the top of the foot and without any pinch points. On the road, it’s really easy to tighten or loosen as necessary with just a few clicks of the adjustment knob. These shoes seem to run a size or two smaller than normal shoes. I have a pair of Specialized mountain biking shoes in a size 42, which seem to fit true to size, and with the Fi’zi:k, I had to go to a 44 for proper fitment, which was perfect for the width, but a bit long for my liking.

According to Fi’zi:k, the R5B is a bit heavier (25g) and not quite as high tech compared to the R3B. However, the R3B cost is a lot higher so you’ll have to decide if the weight advantage is worth the additional cost.

My main reason for going with these is the Boa closure, I tried on other shoes with velcro straps and none felt as good as the Boa system. As soon as I had them on, I knew they were perfect for me.

After unboxing the R5’s and looking forward to owning the quality made Italian cycling shoes, I found out these shoes are manufactured in China, which I bought for 166.45 on this site. Shameful…

So, I am letting the consumers know that the fi’zi:k Factory in Pozzoleone, Italy (which is actually listed with a link on this site and proof in the screen shot below) has a website selling the R5’s for 150.00 U.S. dollars…Buy the authentic product for less cost. The difference is very noticeable and some electronic commerce and computing company’s are worth your hard earned money.
