The Best (Skipping cogs…),
Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I had this chain installed stock on my Tonino Lamborghini Motagna mountain bicycle. I have absolutely no complaints. The chain was absolutely excellent all the way through. I put over 4,000 miles into it. I’m talking about HARD riding, high gear, low cadence cycling. Tugging very hard. I had pegs on my mountain bike (Yes, it’s unheard of, but I did it) and I used to ride my cousin around on trips of 20 miles and up, going up hills, and ripping it up. The chain never ever gave up.
I had to replace it after I bottomed out into a pot hole while racing down a hill at 37 MPH. The spokes caught the derailleur and ripped it clean off snapping the dropout hanger like a twig. I had to replace the derailleur and the hanger. The chain never broke though. It never even warped in the slightest. I decided to change it because I didn’t want to clean it when I replaced the rest of the drivetrain and I had already put in so many miles… Of course, I replaced it with this same one. Do keep in mind, you might want to change the chain more frequently than I did and be very observant of chain “stretch.” I had to replace my SRAM cassette because the old chain “stretched” and the cogs on the shredded cassette weren’t snugging with the new chain so I had to replace the SRAM cassette as well… If you replace your chain and feel skipping when you tug, chances are there is a stiff link, or like in my case, the cassette is worn and you’ll need to replace it as well. 0

Best chain for the money,

I’ve replaced hundreds of bicycle chains in my line of work. My opinion is that Sram and Shimano chains are not noticeably smoother or of any better quality, and are not worth paying roughly twice as much for. I prefer KMC’s master links to Sram’s master links, or Shimano’s stupid rivet system.
When using a master link you can very easily take your chain off the bicycle for your monthly drive train cleaning. If you install the master link properly you will not have problems under load. I know this; because I operated a pedicab for a number of years. Pedicabs weight 180 lbs without a single passenger. Add 3 passengers to that, and you might start to get my point. If you’re busting chains under load. There is only one possible thing that can cause that. You’re in to high of a gear and you’re pedaling up an incline. All you need to do to stop this problem is to switch into a lower gear, probably on your left hand. Please do not give this chain a 1 or 2 star review it deserves much better than that. KMC’s Z51 has been a very loyal part in my shop for several years. 0

Not the lightest, but comes lubed and scentless with a missing link of the two identical halves variety.
It shifts very silently and has so far not made any noise. Overall, it more than exceeded what I had been expecting for a chain this cheap. 0 |
